The month of March registered an expected increase when comparing to February – during this month, the Swiss startups raised a total of CHF 89 million in 30 rounds, an amount however significantly lower when compared to the same period of 2023, when the companies raised a total of CHF 309 million, in 62 rounds. In March 2024, Medtech was the sector that contributed the most, due to the large rounds from SpineArt, Volumina and Hemotune, with a total of CHF 58 million. Following a trend already seen before, early-stage rounds keep dominating the current venture capital landscape, representing a total of 86% of the overall amount number of rounds.

The month of February registered an expected decrease when comparing to January – during this month, the Swiss startups raised a total of CHF 63 million in 26 rounds, an amount significantly lower when compared to the same period of 2023, when the companies raised a total of CHF 189 million, in 19 rounds. This is an interesting fact, already seen in 2023: the number of rounds is keeping a regular pace, meaning that there is not a huge variation from year to year, but the actual amount is considerably different. In 2023, there were two rounds that impacted the overall amount – Taurus (CHF 60 million) and wefox (CHF 50 million), which help to explain the difference. In February 2024, Medtech was the sector that contributed the most, due to the large round from aktiia, with a total of CHF 27 million. Following a trend already seen in 2023, early-stage rounds keep dominating the current venture capital landscape, representing a total of 93% of the overall amount number of rounds.

The month of January started with a great milestone for Sygnum, who closed an important CHF 35 million funding round, which valued the firm at almost CHF 800 million. Medtech, Fintech and Cleantech position themselves in the Top3 ranking for most active sectors. The first month of 2024 brought also great news when comparing to the same period of 2023: in the previous year, the Swiss startups raised a total of CHF 128 million, in 33 Equity and Convertible Loan rounds, while in 2024 the companies were able to raise CHF 164 million, in 29 rounds, which represents an increase of 29%.
